Cardenal Mendoza's New Suit:

Perfectly dressed for the Golden Week 2021 Cocktail Competition

Updated for only the second time since 1957, the iconic Brandy Solera Gran Reserva from Jerez has a more contemporary look, while retaining its traditional virtues held since 1887.

All this makes it an even more elegant and appealing ingredient for the Annual Cocktail Competition, part of the 6th Cardenal Mendoza Golden Week. What’s more, the brandy de Jerez was voted both one of the top five trending, and top five best-selling, brandies of 2021 in Drinks International.

This brandy is aged for at least 15 years in the solera-criadera blending system used to make Sherry Wines in Jerez and the surrounding area. Cardenal Mendoza rests in casks that previously held Oloroso and Pedro Ximenez Sherries, imparting a deep, rich, smooth taste. This full, complex flavour makes it an alluring cocktail ingredient, inviting the most daring and exciting pairings.

Cardenal Mendoza Cocktail Competition

The theme for this year's Cocktail Competition compliments the release of the magnificent new label: entrants must create a new version of a classic cocktail using Cardenal Mendoza, take a photograph or film a reel, and post it to their Instagram feed.

The most important element: the entry must showcase the majestic bottle itself, taking pride of place, so that we know the brandy de Jerez is a key ingredient.

Entries will be marked on various criteria including creativity, originality and presentation (see Terms and Conditions below).

The winner of last year’s competition, which was held largely online, was Jonathan Stanyard, a prestigious mixologist from Seattle, USA, renowned for his original and innovative cocktails, with his creation 'C MARKS THE SPOT', which contained Cardenal Mendoza brandy, Averna Amaro, coffee-infused sweet vermouth, Meletti Amaro, and Xocolatl Mole bitters. The Cocktail Competition at last year’s Golden Week focused on the C Factor: how well Cardenal Mendoza pairs with chocolate, coffee and cola.

Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Choose a classic cocktail.

  2. Create a new take on the recipe using Cardenal Mendoza Brandy.

  3. Take a photo or make a reel and post to your Instagram, ensuring that the Cardenal Mendoza bottle is featured.

  4. Use the hashtag #CardenalNewSuit & mention @cardenalmendozabrandy

  5. Post anytime during the month of October 2021.

Let your imagination and creativity run wild – and good luck!
